Most people nowadays have had raw Ahi Tuna in sushi or sashimi — so eating it will not put them off as it might have, say, 20, 30 years ago. But having it as Ahi Tuna Tacos – especially with a wonton shell – is going to be a brand new experience for most of them. One that they will love. Trust us.

Ahi Tuna Tacos
These take a little planning and a bit of work to make but the results are utterly amazing.
Once you have the prep-work done, these can be easily assembled as you enjoy time with your guests. That make this a perfect Summer dish to have as a snack in the afternoon, while all of your guests are gathered and mingling in the kitchen or on the patio, before sitting down to dinner, enjoying a glass of wine. Just assemble the tacos, place them in a nice taco rack and watch them disappear.

- 1 tablespoon Chili Powder
- 1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
- 1 tablespoon Onion Powder
Tuna
- 10 ounces Ahi Tuna, chopped finely
- 2 – 3 tablespoons sliced Green Onion
- 2 – 3 tablespoons chopped Serrano Pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped Cilantro
- 2 tablespoons Mirin
- Zest and Juice from half a Lime
- 2 tablespoon Sesame Oil
- Salt, to taste
Toppings
- 2 – 3 tablespoon Sour Cream
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced Scallion Tops
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced Radish
- 1/2 of a sliced Avocado
Wonton Taco Shells
- Brush wontons with oil and drape over taco rack (see video).
- Season with chili, garlic and onion powder.
- Place taco rack in oven and bake at 275°F until they are golden brown, about 10 minutes, until golden brown and stiff.
- Remove and allow to cool.
Toppings
- Toss the sliced scallion tops and radish slices in a couple bowls of cold ice water and let them soak to crisp them up as you work.
- Starting at the top, with a very sharp knife, cut down into each avocado until you hit the seed. Cut completely around the avocado, top to bottom, touching the pit the entire time.
- Pull the two halves of the avocado apart and remove the seed with a spoon.
- Use the spoon to scoop the avocado out of the skin.
- Slice into strips.
Tuna
- Put the tuna in a large mixing bowl.
- Add all other ingredients under “Tuna” above and mix well.
Assemble and Top
- Spoon a bit of the tuna mixture into each taco shell.
- Top with avocado slices.
- In a medium bowl, add drained green onion tops and radishes.
- Drizzle a bit of olive oil and lime juice and salt, to taste. Mix well.
- Grab a small pinch and add to the top of each taco.
- Finish with a bit of sour cream.
